Pulau Pangkor

Pulau Pangkor (Pangkor Island), the most popular holiday destination in Perak, welcomes visitors with its serene golden beaches, crystalline blue waters and cool refreshing breeze. Located off the shores of Lumut town, about 90km southwest of Ipoh, this island definitely makes an ideal gateway. Modern facilities and a wide range of sun and sea activities such as scuba diving, windsurfing, fishing, and snorkelling are available.
The name Pangkor actually originates from the Thai word 'Pang Ko' meaning 'Beautiful Island'. This is a very apt description for this island in the sun. The people of Pangkor are mostly fishermen (who catch mainly cuttlefish and anchovy) and local traders who live in a chain of villages that thread along the eastern shores facing the mainland.
Spread along the 7-km stretch of coastline are the quiet Malay kampungs (villages) of Teluk Dalam, Sungai Pinang Kechil, Kampung Masjid, Teluk Kechil and Teluk Gedung.

Pangkor Laut

A privately owned island, Pangkor Laut is the second largest of the nine islands that make up Pulau Pangkor. Pangkor Laut mirrors the dream of a tropical paradise with white beaches and crystal clear waters. An exclusive luxurious resort named after the island stands on the eastern side of the island. Part of the resort is nestled within the lush hillside while part extends over the water.
The outstandingly beautiful Emerald Bay lies on the western side of the island. The name is probably derived from its emerald-green water, and combined with the soft, white sand that covers the stretch of beach and the green vegetation that form the backdrop, it's no surprise this beach is regarded the finest beach in Perak.

Kedah

Air Terjun Puncak Janing

Air Terjun Puncak Janing in Padang Terap, 25 km from Alor Setar. Situated in the Janing Peak, is the ideal picnic area with its waterfall direct from the mountain.

The 1.5 km stretch of Sungai Janing and its unique landscape of rocks provide an ideal place for swimming, picnics and recreation. A wide variety of flora and fauna that encompassed lowland dipterocarp forest could be found here. There is a 3 km track that surrounds this recreational area and also a 15 km track that leads to Bukit Wang Recreational Forest.

Balai Besar 

Located towards the back of the Kota Setar Palace complex is the Balai Besar. Its initial purpose was as a Balai Rong Seri or Balai Penghadapan (audience hall).

Built in 1735 by the 19th Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Adilin Muazzam Shah, this was a lovely building with wood pillars, roofs and flooring.Unfortunately, the building was badly damaged in 1770 when the Bugis armada attacked the place, and ruined even further by the Siamese in 1821.It was, however, refurbished in 1896 to prepare for the weddings of the reigning Sultan's children. Besides weddings, the Balai Besar was also used for official ceremonies and other royal events.

Air Hangat Village, Langkawi

Air Hangat Village is a new tourism concept that sees the redevelopment of the former tourist spot known as Telaga Air Hangat (Hot Springs). The entertainment complex covers some four acres. Attractions include a 3-tier hot-spring fountain, 18 meters hand-carved riverstone mural depicting the legends of Air Hangat, day-long outdoor entertainment programme featuring Malaysian/ ASEAN cultural dances and traditional sports and games, live displays of Malaysian/ASEAN customs, Malay folk and classical dances are performed at the Park, alongside other traditional Malay art and craft activities like batik-painting, congkat playing and foot massage. Food and beverage facilities include a cafe, a lounge and a theatre restaurant. Duty free shopping is available at the pavilions. The village complex is only about 14 km from Kuah Town. Island Horses, langkawi

Our excellent stables are home to superb riding horses suited for a range of riding abilities and all ages. If you're inexperienced or new to horses, we'll help you enjoy your horseback experience. If you're an expert, we have some breathtaking and challenging riding trails for you too.Our Island Horses equestrian centre sits on the western side of Langkawi island, close to the coast near Telaga Harbour, a destination and home for many yachts and megayachts. Our riding centre and stables are located beside the foothill of the amazing 550 million year old Mat Chinchang sandstone mountain range and we are surrounded by one of the world's oldest tropical rainforests. In other words, it's a paradise for riding horses.And that's not all. We're just a stone's throw away from the refreshing cascades of mountain water that flow into seven rocky natural pools called Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells Waterfall). And not far away are the white, sandy beaches of Pantai Kok (Kok Beach). Plus, the Langkawi International Airport is just 10 minutes' drive away. Island Horses is the only riding centre in Malaysia which offers mountain trail horse riding on our all-exclusive Perdana Trail, a 75-kilometre tropical jungle trail which has been given the thumbs-up by our ex-Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, an ardent horseman.

Underwater World Langkawi

Set on 6.2 acres of land at Pantai Chenang, Underwater World is one of the largest marine and freshwater aquaria in the region. It features over 5,000 varieties of fish and other exhibits from 500 species displayed in over 100 tanks. Highlights include the gigantic hexagonal tank and walk-through tunnel tank containing six million litres of sea water. Here you can observe sharks, stingrays, huge turtles and other sea creatures swim by, separated from the visitor only by the laminated clear glass walls of the tunnel. In 2005, the new RM30 million 60,000 sq ft new wing to house 20 rockhoppers and 12 blackfooted penguins was opened to the public. The extension allows visitors to observe the animals from close range.The rockhopper penguins are placed in a tank containing rocks and water with the temperature maintained at eight degree Celsius while the blackfooted penguins are allowed to swim freely in a 20 degree Celsius tank. The 50 blackfooted penguins were brought in from South America. Seals are also housed here. With the addition of the new wing the Langkawi Underwater World now houses animals from three ecosystems - tropical, temperate and cold. Also on display at the new wing is the anaconda from the Amazon, the arapaima - world's largest freshwater fish, the capybara - world's largest rodent and the marmoset - world's smallest monkey.The Underwater World also has a 3-D cinema with a capacity of 200 visitors at any one time.The cinema uses virtual reality technology to portray large and small sea creatures.Many of these creatures are not able to live and exist in aquariums. The system enables visitors to view these creatures up close and in as real a situation as possible.
